Lord Snow lobbying contract for UMMC approved.

The IHL Board of Trustees approved a lobbying contract between Lord Snow and UMMC on November 16.  UMMC will pay Lord Snow $60,000 per year.

The contract states that Lord Snow lobbyists Charlie Williams, Sidney Allen, Kathryn Stewart, and Caroline Sims will represent UMMC.  The Ridgeland law firm will not provide legal services to UMMC under this agreement.   UMMC will pay Lord Snow $5,000 per month.

Lord Snow also represented UMMC in 2017 although the contract does not appear on DFA's website.

Kingfish note: What is interesting about this contract is that the contract is between Butler Snow and UMMC.  The common practice in Mississippi is for lobbyists to represent the represent the university-affiliated foundations.  Butler Snow already represents the University of Mississippi Foundation. Butler Snow lobbyist Tara Wyatt Mounger represented UMMC in previous years but her reported compensation ranged from $20,000 to $27,000 per year and was stated on the Foundation's annual lobbying report.

Spending money on infleunce instead of quality health care.

So, these are our tax dollars once again going to Butler Snow?

When will the REPUBLICAN state leaders stop this practice? Wait, Haley and the good ol’ boys keep filling the politician and staffers pockets so BS will continue to get these tax payer funded contracts.

Word has it that Dan Jones would not hire BS and that is why Feel wanted him fired. That said, if you want effective lobbying, BS is the place. They own state government.

So....what is the total value of ALL Butler Snow's lobbying and bond contracts throughout the state?

Anonymous said...

BS owns all of the state leaders including Tater and Pheel.

$60,000 a year?? That's a bargain. In exchange for priceless lobbying efforts, Butler Snow will only be able to pay their light bill with that.

There was a fox named Becca. This fox guarded the hen house; feeding the hens, petting the hens, watching over the hens. This fox helped the Haley hen get really, really big. This fox lives in a hen cycle and the cycle benefits the fox and the hens. Especially the big hens.

Speaking of Butler Snow......

This law firm did more damage to the City Of Jackson than anyone in the past, present or future. BS moved from the very city that helped them become the premier law firm in the state. They were the "BELL COW" for Buster Bailey to strip downtown of it's core tenants. Bailey made deals with tenants that almost took him down---in other words,he bought the tenants by assuming their existing leases with hopes of sub-leasing their spaces. Bailey took a chance and MAY have won.

All this fascination with BS is somewhat misplaced. There are plenty of lobbying firms making as much or more than BS some of whOM do as good a job as BS, others that can't touch them..

And $60k a year is fairly standard for someone with significant or regular issues in the legislature.

The bitch should be aimed at any state agency, or school, spending tax dollars to lobby the legislature. The agency head and top staff should be able to address any issues the legislature has, answer their wuestions, and defend their budget. While $60k is pennies in a pond of the total budget of UMMC, what exactly does the state (on either side of this expenditure) gain?

Jackson has been blaming everyone and everything for Jackson's problems for how long now? How's that working out?

BY THE WAY...............

Buster Bailey listed the Butler Snow building with a real estate firm called Marcus Millichap out of St. Louis for a grand total asking price of $93,000,000. Bailey didn't list the property for sale with a local firm----that tells me all I need to know !!!!!!

As always, it's all about Buster......

This is a smaller part of a larger story— why do any tax payer dollars go to any state agency? MDOT hires a contract lobbyist (state tax dollars) ; the Board of Nursing hires a lobbyist (state tax payer dollars); the Board of Medical License hires a lobbyist (tax payer dollars). These are just a few examples, like this one highlighted by KF here today with UMMC hiring a lobbyist (tax dollars), of why our state is in trouble. The people have voted in Republicans in both chambers and all but one statewide elected, and thESE backroom, old guard tricks keep happening. When will our Republican leaders start acting like conservatives and put a stop to this. A bill could be passed in January to stop all of this by February but it won’t happen. Chris McDaniel is a fraud but at least he would take a stand against this BS.

I propose that UMMC instruct its lobby team to cause the legislature to enact legislation to expand the Medicaid program under the federal Affordable Health Care Act and to create a state run health exchange to operate under the AHCA.

It doesn't really matter who the lobbyist is. UMMC has its own lobbyist when Ole Miss already has one through the Foundation and UMMC is paying one directly.

11:48,

You need to spell out BULL SHIT (BS)------it may get confused with BUTLER SNOW (BS).

WOW.....what a remarkable coincidence !!!!!!!!!

I propose that UMMC instruct its lobby team to cause the legislature to enact legislation requiring that any insurer hired as the administrator for the state employee, teacher, retiree health plan also participate as an insurer in Mississippi's individual market health exchange under the AHCA.

Let me get this straight:

State agencies that are directed and controlled by the legislature hire private agencies to speak for them to the legislature and all three (the legislature, the lobbying firm and the state agency) are paid by the tax payers?

I can't figure this out. Guess its why I don't know whether to scratch my watch, or wind my ass!

11:48 it’s sad, but a lobbyist is just about required to do business at the legislature for local governments. Legislators want to be taken care of and the playoffs are washed through lobbying fees.

Sam, stop making sense!

So Ole Miss has a lobbyist, the Ole Miss foundation has a lobbyist, and the Ole Miss Medical Center has a lobbyist.

Why am I not surprised?

Yet another example of how the only source/s of income in Mississippi are government related. There is virtually no private sector job creation and government is our biggest employer, including "law" firms like BS. When are we, as a state, going to wake up and get a grip on the fact that we've got to figure out a way to create jobs and actually grow the economy beyond government and those who nurse from its teat. MDA and "Feel" say they're doing that, but we all know that's just an optically driven dog and pony show.

State $ going in circles to same ole cronies...
Same ole situation...Now, go out and play!

God Bless

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
