Priester reduces bond to $1,000 in Kendrick murder.

Hinds County Court Judge Melvin Priester, Sr. reduced the bond of Loren Shell Blackwell to $1,000 today at a preliminary hearing.  JPD charged her and Walter Lee Young with capital murder in the death of Lee Kendrick.

JPD arrested her in September.  Judge Priester placed her on house arrest if she makes bond.  The case has not yet been submitted to the grand jury.

The victim's body was found at Cedarstone Apartments in a vacant unit on September 2.  The cause of death was a gunshot wound.  Law enforcement sources said his body was in a compromising  position  and it was clear that the  unit was used for prostitution even though it was vacant.  His family had issued a bulletin looking for him as he had disappeared.

*Shell was seen in a convenience store video in Mr. Kendrick's car after his murder.  She left that car and got into another one at the gas station.  News reports state the victim's car was later recovered in Jefferson County.

Kingfish note: Possible flip?

Hinds County ... A World of Difference!

Outrageous!! Murder suspect out on $1000 bond. Judge is out of his mind or just stupid. This is the type of judge that will be making Inititive 42 decisons if it passes. Unbelievable that a judge has such a low regard to the safety of the public. Unfreaking believable!

2:23 is right.

Let the accusations of Jackson-bashing start in 3, 2, 1.

Life is wonderful in Jxn. Judges in MadCo are so, UPTIGHT about bail and stuff for accused murderers.

Ridiculous! No wonder Jackson is so crime ridden. There is no deterant.

is he trying to get her out of jail to have the baby to save a little $$?

JPD robbery/homicide is a joke of a unit. its entirely possible there isn't much of a case against her. Priester is a law and order type; criminals don't desire to go before him. Another possibility is she has rolled over on the actual killer and has knowledge of the crime but did not directly participate. There posters on this site with very little knowledge of how the system works that are quick to seize upon anecdotal evidence and poo-poo the whole system.

3:06 The system is highly screwed up if it allows folks that were caught driving the victims vehicle out of jail so that they committ further crimes until their trials come up. $1000 bond is only $100. I don't care if she will give up ISIS this was a bad decision on the judge's part. Foolish!

Anna Wolfe cherry-picked JJ when she was at the JFP and she cherry-picks JJ now at the C-L.

I broke it but it was a public record. She included new info such as quotes from the DA. Getting a quote from the Pearl Mayor was a nice touch.

This is the same JJ that moments earlier was saluting the fact that HINDS COUNTY has two white judges.

And how damned stupid is it to suggest the low bail was due to the woman rolling over? Let her out on a hundred dollar bail and she's offed by Thursday. Stupid all around. Please guess again.

This is a travesty of justice. Old Preister needs to retire!

2:23 Priester will not hear any school issues. He is a County Court Judge. A Chancery Judge will hear the education case if it goes before a Judge.
Priester is known for low bonds and in the case of appeals from Justice Court, no appeal bond.
As to the race of Hinds County Judges: County Court.. 2 black, 1 white. Circuit Court..2 black, 2 white and Chancery 2 black and 2 white.
I just saw an ad for initiative 42 mentioning a Hinds County liberal judge. Which judge are they talking about?

Maybe Priester was threatened...

Wouldn't be surprised if Mr. Priester was one of her better clients. Professional discounts are common.

How many write poems and read them at sentencing?

Whether black or white, liberal or not.....matters such as this do not belong in the hands of a judge, much less a judge who would rule on matters involving 81 counties in which he was not elected to serve.

Let's stop piddle-fartin' around with claims of black and white and liberal and conservative. We elect legislators to represent us and make such decisions. If the process is broken, fix it....don't attempt some idiotic end-around to subvert the funding process.

Next thing ya know, we'll have people in high office going around the federal legislature and making decisions that bypass the constitution.

That is one hard-looking 25yo. Severe face, overweight, hair falling out. A walking advertisement against meth and crack.

I'm curios to see if this is the lowest bond for Capitol murder in Mississippi/US history?

7:23AM If your last paragraph is a reference to Obamacare, well played. If not, well then, Obamacare is prime example.

Just heard Lee Vance (Kingfish's nomination for Chief of The Year) on news decrying this ridiculous bond.

People have you looked at the order attached to this article or heard the report on WLBT, the station that was in court and reported accurate information. The charge was murder and the detective said under oath that they cannot prove that the lady killed the man. They only have evidence that she was with him at some point. She could have been charged with accessory and the charge upgraded when they got the information they needed. The case was bound over to the grand jury and she got a bond. Her case could have been dismissed. Let's wait to see what the grand jury decides.

Has it been confirmed that she IS pregnant? The news last night stated that Mr. Kendrick paid for some of her "living expenses". If, she is indeed pregnant, the question of paternity is now added to the plethora of unanswered questions surrounding the case.

This girl has a rap sheet a mile long and was already out on bond and due in court on September 11th on felony charges...get this, for exploitation of a vulnerable adult and false identification. This was reported on the news and checks out to be true. She had apparently lured an elderly man, they beat him to a pulp, robbed him and left him for dead ...but he didn't die and he could identify her, but hey, you gotta wait for the system right? IF she had been locked up like she should've been, then it is highly likely that Mr. Kendeick would still be alive. But no, now she's out again and no one is safe, she is a predator looking for an easy, naive target. It is known that this woman would carry a gas can around and approach old men at gas stations for "help" " gas money" when she didn't even have a car...she also would ask for rides with a sob story. She is a piece of work and I'm certain we cannot believe a word that she says and she will be manipulating anyone she thinks she can get to listen to her. Everyone needs to remember that Mr. Kendrick is not here to give his side of the story... that was taken from him and these low life thugs are the only sources that the law and public have to help make sense of how this happened. Can we trust anything they say? Probably not, and the poor family of Mr. Kendrick, please be sensitive to them if you have any decency. Many prayers for them.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
