Precinct results

35,522 people voted yesterday. An increase of roughly two thousand votes over the primary last year if memory serves me. Here is the precinct report for the primary.

Need a precinct map to make much sense of this.

Guess I should know which one is mine, but after years of being gerrymandered, re-gerrymandered, annexed, and so many precincts being split... I'm as confused as everyone else I know.

KF, anything you can take away from analyzing these precinct reports? Is there a Ward by Ward total anywhere?

Folks---we literally and figuratively have a "prayer" for Jackson in this runoff--we have what appears to be a decent, reasonable, responsible man vs a kid who's dad was a communist and is pals w da Stokes twins----get off ur ass and get out ur wallets!!

Here is the list of precincts. You can even click the precinct number and it will show you a picture of the polling place.

Marge only got 1/10th of reg voters in the 9th and 1/8th in her own 8th pct. and did not carry either. Time to revise that Christmas party list I'd say, or start telling everyone to contribute $20 apiece.

looks like precinct 17 st james on oakridge got combined with 16 woodland hills. can anyone confirm or explain this?

During the last redistricting of the wards the Council, in their infinite wisdom, split 4 precincts. Therefore carving the traffic by ward will lead to inaccurate data for Wards 3, 4, 6 and 7.

Here is the list of precincts.

The HindsCo Election Commission list is not accurate. It doesn't reflect the ward redistricting. For example, Precinct 32 is now in Ward 7 but HindsCo still has it in Ward 1. That is not the only discrepancy.

Yup, at least for the purposes of this election. Don't know why. They were not combined in 2013 even though the new ward lines had been implemented.

Sorry, forgot to add the ward data will be inaccurate because the City Clerk combined the split precincts for the purposes of this election.

Thank you 1:57.

St James (17) was combined with Woodland Hills Baptist (16) - done by the county and city last year. Had nothing to do with redistricting. A few years earlier, 15 (Duling School) and 16 were combined - so if you look at some returns from prior elections you will see a precinct 15 that doesn't show up now.

Frankly, there are several - several - precincts that need to be combined. Hinds County, and therefore Jackson, has twice the number of precincts needed to be effective.

Board of Supervisors currently has a proposed combination of some precincts under consideration. Combines some 20 precincts thereby reducing the number of precincts from 119 to around 100. A good start, but need to do two to three times that number.

When you have precincts literally across the street from each other, you have unnecessary precincts. You want examples? Two precincts both located in the Metro Center mall: one in Sears and the other in Belks space.

Look at the number of votes cast in these precincts. Many have large number of registered voters, but never have a turnout approaching the registration. Too many people registered that no longer live in the area.

Call your supervisor and encourage him/her to move NOW on the proposed precinct consolidation.

2:49 - the interesting statistic (to me, anyway) is that Marge didn't carry plurality of votes in but one precinct in the city. Forget her vote of the registered voters, look at her total vote in B'haven. She didn't carry either precinct (8 or 9), only got 30-33% and Jr. got more total votes than she did. Got beat at Country Club by other Jr. Took too much for granted and was naïve enough to believe those that promised delivery of black vote.

Dog Margaret all you want and enjoy your jollies doing so but she was entitled to run for office just as much as any other candidate.

What is naive is thinking that she gives a shit what an anonymous butt nugget here thinks.

542, Margaret certainly had a 'right' to run, but she should have known that her candidacy would suck a great many white votes away from other candidates, thereby helping those that want insure those votes are insignificant. What many are noting here is that her weakness in her own ward came through - if a reasonable candidate files against her next time, her retirement from the council may be in sight.

If she had been taking care of her duties as a councilperson over the last few years, I would suspect she would have gotten more than 30% from her own precinct.

That's the chance you take when you put your name on the ballot - certainly her prerogative, but not sure it was a good political move!

From whom?

Anonymous said...

Pete is exactly correct - Hinds should have about 80 precincts at the max - approx. 2000 voters per precinct.

Only 16/89 precincts had over 40% turnout.. That is just pathetic. Of those precincts, Yarber, MBS,and Priester won 11 of them. So what that tells me is the whites get out to vote and the vote was split amongst those 3. It is an obvious race thing, and if the blacks would just get out and vote Chokwe would be the next mayor, the unfortunate thing is, this is the reason Jackson is in the shape it's in... The community which by statistical fact is majority black do not care about improvement, and if they do care about improving Jackson they are not willing to do what it takes to change Jackson ie voting....The blacks need to see past their own color and realize whitey is not the man out to get them anymore. Yarber will be the next mayor IMO , but no thanks to MBS who only took his votes away. Did she really think she could win? She must have developed some political delusion that seems to affect all public officials after serving that long.

Give it a rest Harpy. Go kick your dog. Put all of MBS' votes in the Yarber column and he still doesn't win outright. Whiner.

@9:02AM: What makes YOU think blacks don't care about improving Jackson? What have YOU done? I am black and I definitely care. In fact, there are many blacks families that are contributing and really have hope for Jackson. But, I am not going to let you criticize us. I bet you don't even live here? Unless you have solutions, real ones, stay in you lane, ok?

@10:22 I am not saying ALL blacks don't care about the city which I have called home for over 40 years and still do. I am glad you care and hope you went to the polls to be involved as a citizen. But when only 16 of 89 precincts have only 40% turn out in a city with the struggles of Jackson, it shows the lack of interest in the direction of the city. Most of the 16 areas that had 40% are historically white neighborhoods, thus my comment about lack of interest in the black communities of Jackson. I am involved in my community and volunteer at many including Billy Brumfield, and gateway. I am not trying to say blacks don't care, but just look at the voting, and if you can't even vote, which is the most basic of community involvement, why should we expect Jackson to change? As usually you spew hatred, and don't want to address the real facts.

The real facts are the voter rolls are bloated with "registered" voters that have moved away and/or died. Therefore you are all wiggy about a measure that is inaccurate from the outset. Then you take your arbitrary 40% threshold, pronounce it as more worthy, and cast aspersions on a whole community of voters. Way to go.

Anonymous said...

Percentage turnout means nothing - and you also can't make the analysis that a larger % of white voters turned out than black voters. The bloated voter rolls are not universally disbursed - many precincts have largely bloated rolls while others fairly reflect the current population.

I agree with 11:53 - the calculation based on registered voters is b/s - and a 40% threshold is so totally arbitrary that it also means nothing. Appreciate your playing, but take your marbles and go home.

@11:19AM: Ok, my apologies for being unfair to you. It's just that I've been seeing so many ugly and derogatory comments aimed at the totality of black citizens of Jackson on Facebook and on here, too. You and I had a misunderstanding, that's all. But, I appreciate your honesty, and I really hope you do not move away from Jackson. @Kingfish: I'm on it!

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
