Supes get down to business. Where was Stokes?

The Hinds County Board of Supervisors welcomed two new members Monday and got down to bidness. District 5 Supervisor Kenneth Stokes did not attend the meeting. The meeting was quick, efficient, and over before noon. It became more common for meetings to last four or five hours under the previous board.

Where is Stokes?

Here is a report about the board meeting as seen in the second video below:

*The audience was half its usual size. Many contractors and cronies who usually show up to watch the board were strangely absent. They weren't hanging around in the hallway as they are prone to do when not in the board room.

*Supervisor Robert Graham moved to pay Airwave $67,000. The motion died for lack of a second.

*The Board appointed Supervisor Tony Greer to sit on the board at CMPDD. Unanimous.

*Supervisor Darrel McQuirter moved to hold and review all pending contracts and those coming up for renewal. Unanimous vote. (1:13)

*Former EOC Director Mark Young attended the entire meeting. The position is currently vacant. This correspondent thinks he will eventually regain his job.

*Board rescinded decisions to hire a Director of Homeland Security, Compliance Officer, and Planning Director. Supervisor Peggy Hobson-Calhoun said it would be nice to have someone looking after landscaping and the like but the county could not afford it at this time. (8:00) Supervisor Graham voted to keep the Homeland Security director position. He said Jackson was a "soft target" as he protested the vote. Supervisor Hobson-Calhoun said the vote will save the county $195,000. Additional savings created by the decision will bring the total amount to over $330,000. Watch 15:00 to see Graham's protest. Editorial comment: Why do we have a Sheriff and EOC Director? Then there is the fact MEMA and DPS are in Hinds County as well. Yet the county needs a Homeland Security Director?

*The Supervisors moved $2.1 million back to the Byram-Clinton Corridor project and $1 million to the Raymond Detention Center for renovations to pods A and B. The money was originally removed from the Byram-Clinton corridor project funds by Kenneth Stokes, Al Hunter, and Robert Graham and used for parks and recreation. Editorial comment: The slush fund just got stripped. Stokes won't be happy. (24:00) Supervisor Greer has made several tours of the jail with Sheriff's staff.

*Supervisor Tony Greer moved to ask the board attorney to review the board policy of electing its leadership. The vote to approve the motion was unanimous. Supervisor Graham said he was having "loads of fun". Editorial comment: Opening moves in a play to dump Robert Graham as Board President? (28:00).

New supervisors make opening statements.

Votes are unanimous. Graham is 'having loads of fun'. High fives all around. Methinks Graham feels the shaft approaching and he's scrambling to become 'a team player' as the gallows is erected. Meanwhile, Stokes was at Hat City doing some Seasonal-Gifting shopping. 'Dem Muhfuckas ain't gone make dis man a Foo', he was heard to mutter while leaving register five with a huge box.

Hush, Kingfish. It is well attested that mentioning the name of certain infernal powers can accidentally summon them.

Try "He Who You Best Not Be Namin'."

It would appear that a new day has, indeed, dawned. Hallelujah!

Lt. Graham's (of the Jackson Police Department) days as Board President are next to over. Then in 2015 he'll be sent to pasture.

What a wonderful breath of fresh air! Huge thanks goes to those who have been holding on and having to deal with the old majority.

New sups--welcome!!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

"The audience was half its usual size. Many contractors and cronies who usually show up to watch the board were strangely absent. Let's not make the same mistake our friends in the tea party in DC make. Be careful what you ask for, you may get it. I had an experienced communications hand tell me if someone like Motorola was handling the contract mentioned above, it'd be 140-150% of what the county is now paying. Sorry guys, some things just cost money. I am delighted at the new day though and hats off to Kingfish for staying on the story, we literally have to get our news now from a blog! I like blogs, especially this one!

Tea Party didn't get what it ask for so what is your point?

I had an experienced communications hand tell me if someone like Motorola was handling the contract mentioned above, it'd be 140-150% of what the county is now paying.

Bullshit. There was a reason beyond graft and corruption why Graham drove the Airwave deal illegally as a no-bid professional services contract.

Watched the video.

Graham is an intellectual midget compared to McQuirter and Greer.

Mark Young DOES NOT need to be re-hired as the EOC Director. He's an idiot! He has NO IDEA how an EOC should be run or even how to do his job. Little Bird even said that during the Grand Gulf exercise, FEMA comes in and grades MEMA and the counties on how they respond to an emergency at Grand Gulf, he totally had no idea what to do. He relied on Joey Perkins to do it. If it wasn't for Mr Perkins then Hinds Co would have been a flop. In fact, Mr Perkins was running the EOC when Young was there. Degrees vs experience sometimes doesn't equal. Good luck getting Mr Perkins to reapply after the coal reaming Stokes was allowed to do in public forum.

Ah, the Airwave defense. Nice try.

This argument follows along the lines of "Motorola was charging much more for the services provide SO Airwave actually saved the county money".

Uh huh.

This is a job that can be performed by a couple of certified technicians. Imitate other cities and counties. Hire a couple of employees to do the work. Period. Get rid of the damn service contracts we can do ourselves. Use the inmates to cut the grass and keep the sites clean.

There is a reason these guys didn't want to turn in work logs and other records of what they were or were not doing.

Agreed about Joey.

11:32 spoke the truth about Joey Perkins. He has proven himself time after time. Whether it be running that office, the graded exercise at Grand Gulf, hurricanes, tornados and what ever else has come our way.He not only KNOWS what he is doing, he truly is loyal to, and cares about Hinds County and it's citizens. He has worked for, or volunteered for half of his lifetime serving his community. If anyone deserves that job it is him.

So did we ever answer the original question of how come our porcine Supervisor was missing?

Anonymous said...

It wasn't a serious question, dumbass!

i'm a communications tech, have been for 20 years now. I can tell you that hiring a couple techs won't be cheap, nor will equipping them. Keep in mind too that the parts cost money when you have to get replacements, so without looking REAL close I don't know if they could save money or not going self maintained on the radio system. I know they could on the sirens, as there is not a lot of high cost in repairs there. BUT anything is better than giving it to those clowns they use now!

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
