Replacing Arthur

Arthur Johnston's decision to retire as Madison County Chancery Clerk set off a flurry of debate, as contenders jockey up to the starting gate for the June 3 primary.  There are several names attracting attention that keep surfacing in discussions about the election.

District 2 Supervisor Ronnie Lott is one contender.  He is a sitting supervisor, thus, he starts out with a base.  Being on the losing side of a 3-2 block is no fun and Mr. Lott may think there is no end in sight to that state of affairs.  He raised over $30,000 in his race for supervisor and one thinks he will be able to raise enough money to run a strong race.

Local attorney Cory Wilson is looking at jumping into the race as well.  The former Chief of Staff for Delbert Hosemann got a heavy dose of Madison County politics earlier this year as he represented  for successful candidates in Canton in the municipal elections in a successful court fight.  Canton was a prequel for Hattiesburg, as Mr. Wilson represented the David Ware campaign and was able to win a verdict throwing out the results of the first election.  One presumes Mr. Wilson will have access to the fundraising network of his former boss and statewide Republicans.  Mr. Wilson informed JJ he is weighing his options and has not made a decision.

Leigh Pace, son of Madison County Tax Collector Kay Pace, is another rumored candidate. His name popped up several times this week but JJ literally knows nothing about him aside from his lineage.

Then there is David Overby, current finance manager for Canton and the former Administrator for Madison County.  He was the victim of a power play between Supervisors Karl Banks and Gerald Steen as he was unceremoniously fired by the Board of Supervisors.  He is an attractive choice to many, due to his background and involvement in Madison County politics. However, this correspondent will be surprised if he runs, as he assumed his current position only a few months ago. His employer will probably not take too kindly to him suddenly running for office, and a professional such as Mr. Overby probably does not want to move from job to job to job in such a short period of time, regardless of the reason.   Mr. Overby had no comment when contacted by this website.

It should be an interesting race.  The Chancery Clerk is the clerk, treasurer, and auditor of the county.  Whoever wins the special election will face the problem of following the best chancery clerk in Mississippi.   Then there is the matter of the machine.  Karl, Tim, Rudy, Paul, and John Bell. Who will they support?  That is the real question.  Stay tuned.

"However, this correspondent will be surprised if he runs, as he assumed his current position only a few months ago."

If YOU worked for Canton, wouldn't YOU be looking for another job ASAP?

Different situation now. Has a different board and Mayor. Kind of like Hinds yesterday.

It is Leigh Pace, not Lee Pace. He is the son of Kay Pace. He works at what used to be Madison County Bank. I think the name now is Community Trust Bank. He grew up in Canton, married a Canton girl. Still lives in Canton. Good guy, has good connections, could raise funds. Not sure if he is qualified or would know anything about the position and its duties. Should be around 40 years old.

On another note, Horhn's hearing yesterday was held behind closed doors. 'Sup with that?

And the arresting officer said in his report he offered to call someone to pick Horhn up and the dumbass senator declined? For all of y'all that's gotten a dew-ee, were you given the same consideration?

Ronnie Lott was an incredible safety! He has my vote!

the court appearance was in open court. Horn met with the prosecutor after the hearing. Look for a guilty plea and an apology soon.

watching the highlights of Eric Dickerson, when he played the 49's. He breaks thru the line of scrimmage and then his head spins from right to left all the way to the endzone.
when asked about this he said" looking for Ronnie Lott"

That's nuts. Whether an employer 'takes kindly' to an employee's job search is irrelevant and beside the point. Anybody will 'move from job to job' if all of a sudden a new, attractive, challenging and better opportunity presents itself.

Pace is in no way qualified to be chancery clerk. Yeah, he's a banker. He needs to keep with what he knows.

The last thing Madison County needs is a mother and son in elected office.

However, you dont see or hear much out of Lee Pace's mamma and her twice convicted felon boyfriend since she had to go to court over her and her boyfriends not paying rent on some land where some horses were kept. Madame Collector and her beau show up for court in a county marked TAX COLLECTOR suv with the little badge on the side of it and the boy friend was driving it! I think it even made it on the six oclock news. I wonder if Lee will be approving overtime sheets for off duty SO deputies that never did the work like his mamma, Madame Collector, did that got said SO deputy fired??

Yeah, like mamma like son. I wouldnt and have't ever voted for either one of them.

Mamma collector has kept a VERY VERY low profile since all that came out. She doesnt driver her marked county TAX COLLECTOR suv home any longer since the little episode at justice court that made the news.

I think Lee Pace needs to stay away for the Chancery Clerks office. Cant trust him just like you cant trust his mamma.

When are we going to get a new Tax Collector? The current one has run her course. Too much cronyism in that office.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
