DPS to refund fees

The Lieutenant Governor issued this press release yesterday:

JACKSON – Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves issued the following statement today after reading the opinions from Attorney General Jim Hood stating the Department of Public Safety did not have the authority to raise gun permit prices.

“My first thought when I learned of this bureaucratic cash grab was that the Obama Administration mindset had taken over the Department of Public Safety leadership,” Lt. Gov. Reeves said. “The commissioner’s action clearly violates state law, demonstrates a lack of leadership and makes it appear he wants to be in the gun control business. Mississippians are tired of government reaching deeper into their pockets to justify agency overspending. I expect the DPS Commissioner to follow the law immediately and offer refunds to law-abiding gun owners who have been overcharged for their right to carry a concealed weapon.”

Apparently changes took place yesterday. The Clarion-Ledger reported:

Attorney General Jim Hood has issued an opinion saying the Department of Public Safety did not have the authority to increase concealed carry gun permit fees by $6 without approval from the Legislature...

DPS Commissioner Albert Santa Cruz issued a statement on Monday: “The Department of Public Safety has already been working to refund the $6 photograph fee and comply with the Attorney General’s opinion. We work hard to expedite concealed carry permits and this charge was simply to cover our costs of producing physical permit cards. And any other political posturing is misguided.”

DPS officials said the laws establishing most other licenses and permits the agency issues — including driver’s licenses and sex offender registry cards — include a clause that allows the agency to increase fees to cover costs for photographs.

DPS Spokesman Warren Strain said the agency ceased charging a $6 photo fee on gun permits on Monday, as soon as it received Hood’s opinion, and that officials are pondering how to provide refunds. Strain said the agency had added the $6 fee in July, after the vendor it uses to make the permits increased its charge to DPS. Since July 1, DPS has issued 5,196 permits, meaning it would have to refund more than $31,000. Article
Looks like some of you are going to get some money back.  That and five more dollars might get you into a movie.

Bad blood between Tate Reeves and Albert Santa Cruz. This is the beginning of a battle between Bryant's boys and the Tater Tots for the Governor's office. Already people are being encouraged to run against Reeves if he decides to stay where he is. Lynn Fitch is the one person they want to run for Lt. Gov. It is getting ready to heat up. They will shred that bogus budget increase presented by Santa Cruz and make a fool out of him.

Yep - George Malvaney (Santa Cruz lives with him when he's in Jackson)is a big supporter of Fitch. In fact, he was one of the major sponsors at a fund raiser for Fitch at Scott Walker's house - next to joe Cloyd! Another spon sor of that fund raiser was Bill Walker of DMR. What a bunch of crooks. They're are tied in together - Bryant, Gregory, Malvaney, Fitch, Walker, Pickering!

8:54 you knew where to find this 2012 photo of a charity event that was not accompanied by a news story, and has attracted no comments in about 18 months?

A little obsessed, are we?

A picture worth a MILLION words...Tate has always been Barbour's puppet. Link people to Malvaney and the Walkers all you want but the one major person with DMR and Katrina fraud on his hands is the very person Tate is all snuggled up next to. Barbour, his buddies and all his family made millions while he was Governor. How much of that did Tate get?

Talk about beat a dead horse! You keep trying to tie Fitch to this DMR debacle and no one is listening and no one cares. You post the same stuff over and over. It is so OBVIOUS! She had that fundraiser long before anyone had a clue what was going on with them. Hell, people thought it was Governor Scott Walker that was coming down for it. Let it go dude!

The picture looks like three fleas on a dogs behind. If I were Lynn Fitch I would pay that newspaper to take it down. Look at that grin Bill Walker has on his mug. Was not long after this event they were all FUNraising over at Scott Walker's house down in Ocean Springs next door to the very place Stacey Pickering had a FUNraiser a little later. Politics is a dirty business and proof of this is the people behind these politicians.

Since you enjoyed the picture of Walker,Fitch and Malvaney here is another you are sure to like 10:45. http://photos.gulflive.com/mississippi-press/2012/05/jolly_walker_solangi.html

@12:39 I imagine she has better things to do with her time, like oh I don't know, clean up the mess he left behind at the Treasury. I knew that MPACT was too good to be true. He spent millions flashing his mug across the state simply to self promote to higher office, all the while the thing was tanking. At least she knows her employees names. Tate wouldn't even speak to them as he passed in the hall. Much like the way he is in the public arena. Zero personality.

Speaking of fleas, Good job there Watchdog! The only watchdog he had at the treasury was this wanna be politico he paid a STATE SALARY to just to sit around and monitor everything Phil and Billy did during their campaigns. And he wants to be Mr. Big Shot and not waste taxpayer dollars. What a hypocrit! She ousted this guy right out the gate and I am convinced that is what started this war between the two of them. She found the rat!

So back to the issue here folks.... When is the Governor going to do something with this DPS administration? The Commissioner, the Colonel and the Chief of Staff need to cut their ties and take it to the house. Let's get some leaders in there and keep our troopers safe! If these 3 were my Executive team at my business, they would have been terminated the day of the budget hearing.

1:12 & 1:15 back away from your computer in the Treasurer's office and get back to work. Just like the post above of the picture being called out for BS. Nobody even knows what you mean unless you work up there. I'll call your names/name if you like. You guys are a joke.

Anybody who thinks Tate is running for Governor has lost their mind. Everybody is running for reelection. I do hear Phil is trying hard to get Dean Kirby to run against Chaney but I'm guessing it won't happen. What is a fact is that a group of "capitol" repubs has put together a plan to take Fitch out in 2015. She is on record for doing everything we knew she would do in 2011 but swore she'd be a repub. Huge increases in her budget request, new office furniture, new office space, new staff slots gone wild, and most importantly bad broken campaign promises to people. She may be toast and not an issue after the 15 primary.

1:26,It is very hard to fire anyone that has been your driver for so long and did the same for other govs. A lot is overheard about deals being made with this one or that one.

Y'all are getting way off topic here. Knock it off.

I do not think they are off topic. It's all political incest and all the perps are being named. Dps not only has a leadership issue it has an who issue. They did not prepare for the budget hearing and raised this few illegally because they believe they don't have to follow the rules whether it's driving the speed limit or getting legislative approval to increase a free.

I agree with 11;23 When a public official surrounds himself with questionable people questions will be ask that are part of the total picture. The culture of "in your face we do it our way" has got to stopped or continue to be exposed. On the other hand Tater's press release on the refund was a little much. The battle is underway between these two for sure.

on this issue...
Reeves is right, Cruz is wrong, Bryant is MIA, and Fitch is irrelevant.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
