USM quarterback arrested.

Update: Police change charges against Alford to conspiracy to possess weapon on school campus.

WDAM reports USM quarterback Anthony Alford was arrested yesterday:

"Wednesday, University of Southern Mississippi Police arrested two students related to a fight on the Hattiesburg campus. Those arrested included Southern Miss football star, Anthony Alford, and student Korey Hathorn. Hathorn has been charged with felony possession of a weapon on campus by a student. No one was injured in the altercation.

The incident occurred near the campus' Walker Science Building at approximately 11 a.m. University Police responded to a call of an altercation involving approximately four individuals, including two non students." Rest of story

agg assault with no one hurt? sounds like gross over reaction by a cop.

Anonymous said...

Word is, he'd had enough of everyone badmouthing him about the season and his lack of results. Not the correct reaction, but the guy has taken a lot of crap.

Pointing a gun at someone is considered aggravated assault. That's why the arrest and no one hurt.

Anonymous said...

wrong, pointing a gun at someone is simple assault. See Section 97-3-7 Miss. Code

He didn't have a gun. Hathorn did.

Anonymous said...

use of the gun is imputed as an accessary if he and Hathorn were fighting the other two, but it still doesn't amount to AA if no one was hurt

He will get 0-12 years.

He will be either in the Major League Baseball system next year, or at another football program..He will defin not be at USM. Too talented to waste his time, or get hurt.

he will not get 12 years, or any years in jail, no felony facts have been reported that will apply to the qb; Hathorn probably gets probation and no conviction if he has a clean record in the past. USM is almost as big a dumpster fire as UM was last year, they better get their crap in order fast because they don't have the resources to make a quick recovery like UM is hopefully in the process of achieving.

let us backtrack 5 years. Bower was pushed out the door. Gianinni brought in his guy, Fedora. (I supported them both) Fedora and Gianinni found out that the going was much more difficult than they thought. I give Fedora and his staff much credit. The worked hard. Recruiting was tough. The sell to fans to buy in was tough. Fedora was amazed that the fans would not sell out every games. USM struggled until last year at 12-2. Yes it was an easy schedule by design because Gianinni had to look good too. The resulting budget deficit on top of the fans being pissed off about the Hawaii bowl instead of the Liberty Bowl(a major screw up by the lame conference USA leadership) was enough to piss Miss Martha(president) off. The pushed Gianinni out the door. She hand selected some old farts and they chose Ellis Johnson. A very poor choice. From the get go Ellis did everything poorly-opening press conference, relationships with players and former players, choosing a staff, choosing a strength coach, recruiting, spring ball, summer ball, football camps, relationship with high school coaches, qb selections and coaching, redshirting, poor game coaching, and the list goes on and on and on. He had to be fired. Which bring us to where we are today. A Alford had no business playing qb this year. I am not sure if he is a college qb. He could be a great athlete, slot, backfield, return man, etc. The staff put him in a position to fail and he has handled it pretty well up until now-HEAR ME- he makes his own decisions and choices. This is an overflow of poor leadership in our program. This is why the next hire is extremely critical for the program.

um, what surprises me is 99% of the time Hopkins makes the arresting office drop the charges or the officer will be fired if he refuses. Those football players at USM are being arrested all of the time for drug charges, the charges are "dropped" and they SUCK at football. hmmmmmm...Chief Hopkins is DIRTY. there if proof.....

Bower couldn't get along with the fan base and didn't care to. Good or bad, that was his personna.

Gianinni scheduled almost all games at night, one at 9:00. He must have had a brother-in-law in the motel bidness. Bower dressed the players in black almost every game and the jumbotron played nasty-ass rap music for several years.

Gianinni had golf cart after golf cart bring fancy food to his sky suite. Not sure who he was entertaining. Probably relatives.

Johnson should never have been hired. An old man who has never been a head coach looking for four years at the PERS trough is a loser before he laces up his Nikes.

Is this the same QB whose mother was arrested in the stands three games back. WTF?

TO THE TOP!

4:45 I am the one who said he would get 0-12 years. I think my joke didn't hit the mark (hint: see USM's record this year).

" Fedora was amazed that the fans would not sell out every games"

Try the student section at homecoming.

USM is a prime example of getting rid of athletics in schools. The academic program is a drain on the school.

The student body doesnt care about it and dont donate after they graduate.

The whole thing is ran by a handful of businessmen who wished they had gone to State/Ole Miss, as they are the only people that donate money.

USM needs to work very, very hard in getting the student body interested. This can be done by stopping the disruption of campus during home games. People who pay for a dorm get tired of moving their car off campus and walking back.

Or they could just bulldoze the stadium and build badly needed dorms.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
