Seale for AG?

C. Stevens Seale sent out this email the other night after the Obamacare decision:

"Today's Obamacare ruling by the US Supreme Court has prompted me to let more of my friends know through this and other means what I have told many of you privately as I have had the opportunity to meet with you in person. While many other state Attorneys General throughout our Nation opposed Obamacare due, among other things, to the direct and indirect costs including the administrative impact and burden on state government healthcare systems including Medicaid, and the clear tax implications on our citizens despite the political spin by President Obama and his allies, Mississippi's Attorney General, Jim Hood, refused to join the efforts to block it. Rather than seeking to act in the best interests of the citizens he serves, Hood merely said he couldn't find legal authority to file suit. Mississippi and its citizens deserve better. When positive economic change was positioned to occur in Mississippi in the form of tort reform, Hood and his supporters opposed it. When negative change like Obamacare was directed against us, Hood refused to act. We need an Attorney General who will always do what is in the best interests of Mississippi and its citizens. I will do that, and I plan to run for Attorney General in 2015. In coming days, I will be asking for your support.

C. Stevens Seale"

This might be the worst idea ever. What kind of manic rant is this email he sent out?

Anonymous said...

It worked so well for Walrus Simpson that this guy wants to try it.

The positive thing about Seale as AG candidate is that he's not from the coast. The last 2 Rep. nominees have been from down there, and that is a hopeless formula to win an open seat, much less beat an incumbent.
The negative is that he's not a great candidate in many ways. I hope someone else will step up to the plate here.

Sadly, even Steve's friends don't like him.

Anonymous said...

Nobody likes Steve Seale. He is a person who can walk into a room of five of his friends and come out with three new enemies.

I like Rep Mark Baker for the AG's office

Need someone with a last name starting with A-G.

Looks like he made the right decision.

Seal supported Rudi & Elvis?

You people are harsh. Kingfish, really letting personal attacks like 9:01 and 9:06 through?

Anonymous said...

12:24 You think running for office isn't harsh? Open your eyes. If Steve can't handle it now, what's it going to be like if he runs?
Steve has been in the land of the pontificating for too long. He behaves as if he is the smartest guy in the room.
I think the real reason he is running is that he has become a liability. His lobbying clients realize he does them more harm than good with Tate & Co.

12:40 - I've heard the same thing from people who work at the legislature.

Anonymous said...

I always thought the corruption in Madison county was close to what Jim Hood had with the AG's office and Mr. Seal was on their payroll and helped those who were in power!

Anonymous said...

Don't confuse the constitutionality of a law with it being wise public policy. The vast majority of Mississippians still feel Obamacare is bad policy and the leaders of our state are following the will of the people in opposing it. The present AG apparently feels it is much more important to tow the liberal Democratic party line.

And if you are going to attack someone, please do it on the basis of substance. Ad hominem attacks are cheap and reflect an inability to discuss the issues.

Anonymous said...

I don't think anything that's been written here lacks substance. If you know Steve, you know they are all true.

Anonymous said...

I do know Steve and I like Steve.

Anonymous said...

In a time where candidates walk a political tightrope between saying nothing and saying something with real substance, you have to give Steve credit for being willing to speak his mind. He doesn't mind having the tough conversations. Whether you agree with him or not, you have to respect a man that's willing to say what he feels. He makes good arguments, proving he's actually thought about the subject and that it's not a political calculation. Anyone who thinks Mark Baker is going to do anything but protect his friends and his own ass is an idiot. Steve doesn't mind rubbing people the wrong way to get to the bottom line, and that is an quality I find admirable.

Anonymous said...

Well, he certainly doesnt mind rubbing people the wrong way. He is said by friend and foe alike to be rude and arrogant. Seale makes a decent first impression, but he quickly alienates people who should be his allies. This is a well known fact in Mississippi GOP circles. He will go nowhere, and deservedly so.

@10:09: Being rude an arrogant didn't keep Simpson from being the Republican candidate.

First of all, it's Steve Seale. There's an "e" on the end, and if you are going to bash his name, at least spell it correctly.
The fact of the matter is that Seale has served our state and our country in numerous capacities over the years. He's served in the Navy, served as a state senator, and also served as Chief Council for US Senate Majority leader Trent Lott.
He is an experienced veteran who has seen both sides of the government, and because of this, he is an excellent candidate for the role of AG. Because of his experience in these roles, he knows what should be done to make our government what America's founders intended for it to be. He will be unafraid to stand up for what he believes will benefit the greatest amount of Mississippians.
I know that is the kind of man I want to represent me. It's because of this that Seale will have my vote come 2015.

Anonymous said...

@3:01, it's "counsel" not "council." If you're going to be a fanboy, at least spell it correctly.

Anonymous said...

@3:29 Oh, you're right! Seale was Chief Counsel for US Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott! Thanks!!!

I missed a logical step somewhere around "because."

So anyone who's (1) an experienced veteran and has (2) seen "both sides of the government" (what does that mean? ruled & ruler?) can be an excellent attorney general?

He will be unafraid to stand up for what he believes will benefit the greatest amount of Mississippians.

Ah, so legal decisions are to be made based on cui bono? I admire your candor, Mr. Seale ... er, I mean, Mr. Anonymous Commenter.

Anonymous said...

@3:01 and @Anderson
Actually, just to clarify, I'm a fangirl.
I have personally worked with Mr. Seale in the past, and I would consider him one of my dear friends (unlike many of those who claim to know his character on this blog). Having worked in government and on some political campaigns myself in the past, and I know what type of person I believe we need in government. We need someone who has seen both sides; someone who will not see things solely through the eyes of a politician but through the eyes of those that they represent. I know that Steve will make sure to look at all sides in order to best represent Mississippi.
I know what Steve stands for and it is because of that that I respect him as a man and a friend.

To all of you posting negative things about Steve Seale, I have two questions. First, have you ever met Steve? Secondly, have you seen his commitment and dedication of his work? Before meeting Steve I had heard the rumors about him being cocky and arrogant, but after getting to know Steve I have found those to be entirely false. Steve is a man of great character and great leadership and would do a much better job than the current idiot sitting in the AG's position. Also, Steve represented my county to the state and federal government and did a fantastic job in helping our county with lobbying needs. So, before anybody else starts their rants about Seale...get your facts straight first. Also, if you honestly think any politician doesn't have a small amount of arrogance, you are truly mistaken.

Anonymous said...

Seale's post here is a trial balloon. It's way to early to formally announce. He's just testing waters and gauging response in order to make decision. Doubt seriously he will run, but probably would make good AG.

Anonymous said...

Sadly, he is as bad as advertised. Professionally, he has made a career out of living off of his resume and then underperforming. It's never his fault when he fails to deliver, but always due to his unique skill or relationship when he stumbles in to a successful result. He is a stranger to humility and has no idea how many of his "friends" actually dislike him. This is no trial balloon. He is actually planning to run. Should he somehow get the GOP nomination, he has no chance of winning save a massive scandal or the untimely death of his opponent. As AG, he would be an embarrassment to the state. And this is coming from someone who can tolerate him on a personal level.

SS is a promoter, mainly of himself. "Big Hat, But No Cattle." Most politicians are same as him. He should talk to Al Hopkins and Steve Simpson before moving forward. His support of Hewes is indicative of his lack of political savvy. All in all though, he's not bad guy, about what you expect from your garden variety peckerwood from Petal.

Anonymous said...

wonder if Seals buddy Frank will support him or Baker?

Anonymous said...

I believe thats Franc

Anonymous said...

Franc is not into wasting other people's hard earned cash.

Anonymous said...

Franc, is this the guy with the check cashing buisness?

One of the smartest things Hood has done was to stay out of that lawsuit. Mississippi would have only lost time and money. Don't re-invent the wheel and ride when you don't have to walk.

Having worked with and around Steve and even though I disagree with him on some subjects, I know that, when Steve takes a position on an issue and talks about it, he’s done the reading and research and, more often than not, it’s an issue he’s worked on and has experience dealing with.  You may disagree with him, but you’d better be able to back up what you say because you can be sure Steve is ready to do that.  As for some of you other people who criticize Steve’s record and his resume, have you ever served this Country in the armed forces?  Steve has having spent 6 years on active duty and 4 in the reserves in the Navy.  Have you ever run for or been elected to office?  Steve has and was twice elected State Senator, the first time over a 12-year incumbent Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee.  And when you criticize his effectiveness for his clients, you ought to look at his client list.  He’s represented some of the best companies and also represented the US Chamber and the Business Roundtable.  They haven’t complained about Steve’s work, and they’ll be supporting Steve when he runs.  By the way, he was in the White House representing those when President George W. Bush signed the class action reform bill.  But, I’m sure that since you all seem to know so much about Steve and his record and character that you already knew all that. Otherwise... Well, you wouldn't really have any room to talk, now would you?
What is it Steve’s for and is willing to stand up for that you’re against?  He’s got a record, and i know, as his friend that he’s ready to say why he believes what he does and has voted the way he has.  Are you?

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
