I'm a big ole libtard, but I've known Lucien my entire life. He could have gone anywhere and done anything after graduating from law school at UVA and clerking for the 5th Circuit. He chose to stay in Jackson. I have no doubt in my mind that Lucien will do everything he can for the betterment of our State. We may differ on things when it comes to policy, but I know we both want the best for our State. We may have different views on how to get there, but I know, in the end, a Mississippi with Lucien Smith will be far better than one without him.

I have known the Smith family for almost thirty years. My daughter attended school with Lucien and his sister, Carrie. These two young adults along with their parents, Bill and Jane, are just really fine people. No doubt they have many friends. Even when Lucien was in high school you just knew this young man was a leader. I am so glad to know he has returned to MS after getting his education and wants to serve our citizens as Treasurer. He's just the kind of person we want home and helping out state.

And Harvard undergrad, 11:32.

From the sounds of Justin's post, it would appear that Paul is rubbing off on the liberals, they are now calling themselves, "Libtards".

Can Lucien run on anything other that working for Haley and his education?

Justin said...

I can assure you, Paul has not rubbed off on me. That would be criminal.

Ray Mabus went to Harvard

The most qualified Treasurer in recent memory, in my opinion, has been Tate.
Mr. Smith is as qualified as Wiiliam Winter when elected Treasurer and easily as qualified as Marshall Bennett.
Education and service with the Governor is as qualified as any of the others.

Yeah, this is another one that just doesn't excite me. Maybe I've been in business too long, but I really want to see a resume that is more than just where someone went to school.

No doubt, young Lucien is very smart and has distinguished diplomas. And congratulations to him for that. But when has he ever been in an executive position? Has he ever had the final word on something that affects people's livelihood?

I realize that we're talking about State Treasurer here, I still would prefer a candidate who has done something in life other than take tests, read books and present a superior with options.

But I have met him on several occasions and he's a nice guy.

The Governor is on the way out, and pandering for the national vote.
The attourney with Haley who did the most work is not running for office.

I too have known Lucien his entire life (I say "his" because I'm a year older than him) and went to SA with him. I adore Lucien and he is definitely destined for great things but I'm not sure Treasurer is it. If you know Lucien then you know his great gift is talking--to anyone, anytime, & any place. He was amazing at speech and debate in school but 6:21 makes a very appropriate point about his lack of experience. "But when has he ever been in an executive position? Has he ever had the final word on something that affects people's livelihood?" Even though my instinct is to defend Lucien and cheer him on no matter what, I have to agree that 6:21 is exactly right that Lucien has none of the executive/business-owner/CEO-type experience necessary. His gift of gab and personality (as well as his parent's connections) will take him far but I don't think Treasurer is the right move.

MSHN,
Are you suggesting that there is a candidate in the treasurer's race that has "executive/business-owner/CEO-type experience"?

Anonymous said...

Why would an executive/business-owner/CEO-type leave that presumably lucrative business for a job with the state?

MSHM said...

Make no mistake I’m firmly “team Lucien” but the point I was trying to make is that MY concerns (whether valid or not it's purely my opinion) are that Lucien has never had to manage a household budget, pay a student loan, plan for retirement, run a business, manage employees, etc. I’m very surprised that he didn’t “stair-step” his way up by running for local office first. Lucien is wise beyond his years in many areas but he is also still very “green” in real-life experience.

MSHM, honestly, now you are now getting up in Lucien's business and talking about things you don't have a clue about. Of course Lucien has not had unlimited funds and has had to live on a budget. How do you know he doesn't have student loans? You don't know. He certainly might, but it's no one's business but his. How do you know he doesn't already have a retirement account? My 28 year old daughter does and watches it like a hawk. How do you know he hasn't had to manage or supervise employees? You simply don't know.

I'm just surprised how you try to sing Lucien's praises yet you try to find negative things to say about him. The truth is Lucien Smith is a very fine young man. There's simply nothing bad to say about him. He's the total package of what you call outstanding, and he is more than capable of carrying out the responsibilies as the Treasurer of MS, or he would not be running.

That's a mighty impressive war chest Smith has built. Having Tim Ford in your corner is HUGE.

Some might think the office is for sale?

Anonymous said...

11:56. I don't see the office is for sale. This is a state-wide race. Whoever runs will have to work very hard to be elected but will have to have money to be competitive. People who know Lucien Smith think he is super nice guy, very bright and very capable. Luckily, he and his family have a very large circle of friends who are willing to help him.

Lucien is a great public speaker.

Host and Sponsor list looks like a Who's Who of the Jackson Country Club crowd.

Anonymous said...

Lucien's claim to fame is a passing acquaintance with Natalie Portman. Since his college and grad school career are his main assets, beside his connection to Haley, then let's hear what they are.Lots of kids go to Harvard or UVA. What did they do there?

Anonymous said...

I have known the Smith parents for almost 30 years and think highly of them. I don't know Lucien, but what I've heard from his contemporaries is not impressive. As for "Lucien has a lot of friends," Haley has a lot of friends, Bill and Jane do as well, and our crowd will vote for anyone with Republican in their resume.

Do we have a tea party candidate? Getting tired of this rich, white and entitled group of republicans. Lucien may not be this but look at his donors and it seems he runs in that crowd.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
