Attack in Fondren

Update: I've spoken to several people, including a family member and can add some more details and knock down some of the crap people are posting in comments. The couple left the restaurant, the car drove by, one guy leaned over and drove while the driver leaned out the window and grabbed the purse. The woman could not break free and was dragged 100 feet before the car turned right and then turned again onto North State Street. Measurements were later taken and it was determined she was dragged approximately 1000 feet. Several witnesses saw what happened. The two thugs were black males. Period. A black witness who assisted the victim after she was free told the police "it was my color" that did this. The witness was lucky in that the pavement was repaved and not cratered or else she would probably have been killed at that speed. The victim and her husband did NOT know the hoodlums who committed this heinous act. To say otherwise is disgusting and will not be tolerated on this site. Period. The two black males were laughing as they dragged her down North State Street. It was a game to them. Its a shame keelhauling is not considered a constitutional penalty.

This email went out today. I've removed the names and the sender.

On this past Saturday evening at around 9:30 pm XXXXX XXXX and her husband XXXX were leaving a restaurant in the Fondren area and were walking to their car in the parking lot. XXXXXX had a purse with shoulder straps on her right shoulder at the time. A car came speeding up next to them and the driver of the car leaned out and grabbed the purse, pulling XXXXXX to the pavement. The passenger in the car leaned over and began steering the vehicle. The straps did not immediately come off XXXXXX’s shoulder, and the car continued through the parking lot, heading for North State Street, dragging XXXXXX along with it. The car exited the parking lot and headed north on North State Street, continuing to drag XXXXXX for a little over 1,000 feet. During this time XXXXXX’s body was bouncing on the pavement and periodically hitting the tires on the car, while she was trying to release the purse straps from her shoulder. She finally got free of the purse and the car sped off. During this time, her husband XXXX was chasing the car down the street wondering if she was still alive. (XXXX and XXXXX could both hear the guys in the car laughing.)

XXXXXX was transported to University Medical Center for treatment. Amazingly, she suffered no broken bones and no head or face injuries. She did suffer scrapes to her left shoulder, back, and hands. She was wearing some tall leather boots which protected her feet and legs during the attack. At around 2:30 am she was released from the trauma unit at UMC and was taken home where she continues to recover.

The two men in the car ended up with $150 in cash and three credit cards that were cancelled before they could be used. XXXXXX is bouncing back quickly. She continues to ask the question “How could anyone be so mean?” XXXXXX is also the daughter-in-law of XXXXXX XXXX. Please keep all of them in your prayers. It is so obvious that the Lord protected her and kept her from being killed. Her family and friends rejoice in that fact.

Wow...my wife and I went to Babalu (sp?) around the same time..parked in the back lot. Glad she is ok.

Why anyone still lives in Jackson or even visits Jackson is beyond me. It is a crime ridden cess pool. Got my family moved out of there 15 years ago. Saw what was coming. Just leave.

Anonymous said...

Terrifying just to read. Will keep this family in my prayers and thank you KF for giving this information out. Hicksville is so in nowadays.

We have to get some more police presence in Fondren. It is hard to eat at any of the restraunts in this area and not hear a story of someone who got robbed leaving that particular restraunt.

Anonymous said...

JPD has announced that the crime remains unsolved. no further announcements will ever be made. By the way, the two men in the vehicle were young xxxxx males

Been out of town...

Shocking, Jackson is still wondering why they have so much violent crime.

Hmmmmm....

It is the wild DT attitude replete with complicit apathy amongst the few left championing its beleaguered strengths.

Too bad her husband din't have a CCL. I bet they would have laughed for long!

This could have happened anywhere in town... no reason to pick on Fondren. I happen to be a friend of the young lady, and I am so glad and grateful that she is okay.

There are plenty of criminals everywhere, thugs who laugh at dragging you behind their car should be tried as attempted murderers and under hate crime statutes.

Laws exist to punish people, but no amount of boundaries will prevent the existence of sociopaths. There is no other explanation for what happened to her- and when they find them I'll be the first to line up with a lead pipe. Lets not attack an area of town because this is where it happened. News flash- low down trash can drive to Madison.

Anonymous said...

How come no news coverage?

Geez..

Here we go again.

8:06 PM says.."Could have happened anywhere in town". Really? Wonder why it does not happen in lily white sections of the Rez or Rankin county?

Hmmmmmmmmmm

If you do choose to frequent restauants in Fondren, go prepared to be robbed and get in the first blow. Mace, taser, stun gun, whatever you like or if you're a good shot...damn those dumbasses making our lives threatened, dangerous, and miserable. If it gets around that Fondren citizens are standing by just waiting to mace or taser or just plain shoot you, even the scummy creeps will think twice.

Anonymous said...

This could have happened anywhere in town... no reason to pick on Fondren.

Here come the Fondren apologists. No different than the downtown ones.

Nobody is picking on Fondren except the thugs who are trying to maximize their gains by going to areas where the pickings will be good.

The other advantage of doing crime in Fondren, instead of Madison, is the totally f'd up justice system in Hinds County. What you don't seem to understand is they do the crime where they are least likely to get caught and/or do any time.

Anonymous said...

This could happen anywhere but DOES happen in Fondren. Half the crap that happens in Fondren goes unreported. Lock and load my friends. Start fighting back and we might have a chance, just maybe.

Another Fondren crime not covered by the Bugle despite the proximity.

Meanwhile the JFP has located one of Melton's old athletic supporters.

They are paying for a forensic analysis on the strap.

Big, big story about to break over there.

Some people still try hard to convince others that the Fondren and Belhaven sections of Jackson are safe. The fact is they are absolutely not. Going to either place after dark you are just plain asking for trouble. This poor woman is a good example of what could happen to anyone in Fondren. She is darn lucky to be alive, and I hope she never goes back there. I wonder what else has happened in Fondren (and Belhaven, too) that they have managed to keep out of the news? Plenty I suspect. If you value your life, please find somewhere else to go at night.

Anonymous said...

I love Fondren. But - I'm not going there when it's dark. I'm perfectly content to stay in my gated and guarded Madison fortress. There's a reason that few criminals venture beyond the Jackson City Limits.

Anonymous said...

You will only read news coverage of Fondren crime on this website and in the Northside Sun. No other news outlets exist.

Mark Geoffriau said...

I wonder if there's a market for breakaway purse straps...perhaps a replaceable link that breaks at something like 40 lbs of tension?

CCL may not have made a difference. Were I this woman's husband, I don't know that I'd try to fire on a fleeing car down a public road with my wife being dragged alongside.

The most critical issue is situational awareness (and that includes the decision to walk around in Fondren at 9:30 PM).

Anonymous said...

Here we go again. People from Rankin County yelling about how dangerous Belhaven is. The most dangerous part of Belhaven are the trucks with Rankin County tags speeding down Linden/Greymont and running stop signs.

Anonymous said...

Stupid white liberals live in Fondren. And their only response is, "well, crime happens everywhere."

I've got news for you white-guilt folks. While you may feel good about yourselves for living in what you perceive to be a cute, quaint enclave, YOU are the problem.

You live in a city run by black Democrats who don't give a shit about crime. Your monkey police force is incompetent and corrupt. Get out, or get what you deserve, you liberal douchebag morons.

Anonymous said...

So, is comment moderation just a fact of life? Geez that sucks.

Anonymous said...

Bingo 9:02. Rankinites love to endanger our children as they cruise through the 'haven cutting through to/from Lakeland.

Here's the deal - Belhaven and Fondren are about the only places in Jackson or the 'burbs where home values have maintained and the buy/sell demand remains.

I hate that I don't live in a neighborhood where everything looks exactly the same, there are no trees and people are hanging out on their flatbeds in their garages. oh - and every third house is in foreclosure.

9:56 -- Donna? Miss Ladd? Is that you?

The truth is a bitch, that's for sure. You may not like the words I choose, but I don't see you disputing the substance of my post.

You are part of the problem. And Jackson will look a lot like Canton & Lexington very, very soon. Enjoy your arugula with a side order of liberal sanctimony.

Anonymous said...

i didn't realize they had computers at the klan headquarters now.

Where have you been? They've got plenty of computers in Eastover. If you're looking for Klukkers NE Jackson is full of them.

Anonymous said...

The White guilt liberal based residents of Fondren have tried so hard to keep that place going but ya know......They are just pouring water into a bucket with holes as throwing money at that area will never stop the problem.

Anonymous said...

I'm not a Belhaven/Fondren apologist, but you are living in a dream world if you think that you can escape crime in a metro area as big as Jackson.

However, it does infuriate me that people get held at gunpoint, beaten up, and robbed in Fondren when the majority of the crime happens on one block of one street. The area around State St. and Duling is the only place in the city that people walk around, go to dinner, live, and work. There should be a beat patrol at all times in the area.

That said, do the Rankin and Madisonites not realize that by coming to work everyday in downtown Jackson and leaving at night to go back to their locked and gated homes, they contribute to the problems in Jackson. On my way home to crime ridden, infested Belhaven, I see 10x more Rankin/Madison tags than Hinds County tags. Maybe if you reinvested in the city rather than act as leeches, you would actually see some improvement.

I have always wanted to know, how do you figure out which house is yours if you live in Madison and every house in your neighborhood looks the same? Do you have to remember that you are the third house on the left? Now that the days are shorter, do you sometimes go to the wrong house because you couldn't read the house numbers?

Ironghost said...

I'd bet money I know who exactly 10:17 am is. I've heard the same lines over the years at the JFP.

Anonymous said...

10:30 --

Thank God I don't have to work downtown anymore, but how are people who commute contributing to the problem?

I've been downtown twice in the last month. Once to go to court, and once to (foolishly) meet a friend for drinks at that Babalu place in Fondren. (Nice place, if you like gay bars with lousy service.)

But again, how are peiple who work in Jackson but live elsewhere part of the problem? Liberals seem to blame everyone but those responsible.

Mark Geoffriau said...

What a terribly communitarian idea, that a citizen ought to submit himself to more crime to "reinvest" in the city. Reinvest how? By making direct contributions via their stolen wallet or purse?

Acting as leeches? Jackson city officials ought to be happy that those downtown businesses haven't moved to neighboring communities.

I can't help but laugh at the implicit comparison between a woman being dragged down the street by her purse strap and the horror of a little homogeny in residential architecture.

For what it's worth, I live out in the suburbs, none of my neighbors are in foreclosure, our houses don't all look the same, we are all friendly with each other, and we're not all white. Shocking, I know.

Anonymous said...

I've read the same comments there too IG. Yet, how do you explain why white candidates campaigning to Ward 1 voters, regardless the office, fear monger and hype crime each election to the point of hysteria? If they aren't trying to stir up racial animosities then who is the target for their propaganda?

Anonymous said...

What a terribly communitarian idea, that a citizen ought to submit himself to more crime to "reinvest" in the city.

Accepting (undefined) tolerable levels of crime as the price one should expect to pay for the supposed good life in the city is the foundation for every apologist argument Kamikaze makes on the subject of Jackson crime.

Anonymous said...

Some one mentioned Babalu or Nicks, but seems to me the only
parking lot that runs out to North State would be Walkers.

I can understand that the restaurants dont want a lot of publicity, but I think it is in the public interest to publicize crime in this area.

I thought Walkers had some security on the premise.

Anonymous said...

Do you really not understand how living elsewhere is part of the problem? You receive money from a job in Jackson and you spend it on taxes/goods/services in Madison.

Where is the fallacy in that logic?

The fallacy is believing business, lawyers, bankers, brokerage firms wont eventually move out to madison. leaving Jackson a big , well deserved , ineptly managed HOLE !

Mark Geoffriau said...

11:19, the fallacy is in the implicit belief that people who work in a given city are somehow beholden to also reside in that same city, in order for that city to remain economically viable.

Every city has commuters from suburbs and surrounding communities, but not every city has the crime problems that Jackson does.

11:40 -- What good is a "walkable" neighborhood if you have to choose between your wallet and your life on the way to the grocery?

Astoundingly, even though I live in the suburbs, I've got a gas station, a grocery, several restaurants and takeout places, a couple auto parts stores, two liquor stores, the police station, the post office, the library, a bank branch, the city park with sports fields, and more, all within a mile and a half of my house.

Anonymous said...

You receive money from a job in Jackson and you spend it on taxes/goods/services in Madison.

So what? Your comment is typical of the folks who don't want to treat the illness and therefore focus on what they perceive (erroneously) to be the symptoms.

You could move every damn government job downtown to somewhere outside of Jackson and Jackson's problems will still be there.

The residency of the metro workforce is not the illness. Neither is the absence of a downtown entertainment district nor the lack of an $150 million dollar arena.

You receive money from a job in Jackson and you spend it on taxes/goods/services in Madison.

This is what I'm talking about. Such a mindset is totally foreign to me, and I suspect anyone else who believes in freedom.

Whoever wrote that pablum must think that the Benificent City of Jackson -- giver of all things -- has created the jobs held by these selfish commuters.

You learn about things in the law of contracts like "an arms-length exchange" and "benefit of the bargain."

An employee works; the employer pays him. I'm aware of no other duty, moral or otherwise, that requires an employee to do anything else. And (unless working for a county or city government with a residency requirement), THE U.S. CONSTITUTION GUARANTEES FREEDOM OF MOVEMENT.

Liberals are so effing stupid.

As they grow older they will become worse, if that is possible.

In the future, long after I've gone, I imagine civilized society will take a much harsher measure in an effort to eliminate them from decent society throughout the world by any means necessary.

That is, if civilized people are still around.

Kids, it happened behind the Duling school.....
And it has happened in NE Jackson at Kroger. It happens...and will continue to happen because no one can catch these thugs. Anyone who laughs at the possible death of a woman (because she could have easily been killed while they were dragging her) is a demented asshole. And, those assholes are still loose out there....to do it again. These thugs just don't care. Period. The end.

Sadly, it is going to get to where nowhere is safe. Use precaution wherever you go...And there was a mugging outside Julep's parking lot not too long ago. Let's not forget the notorious robbery at Maison Weiss either. It happens everywhere!! Don't let these sick bastards stop you from enjoying your life- just use precaution...And hopefully someone will eventually get a hold of them and shoot em'. Jail isn't good enough for them...just shoot them and move on with it.

Let's not forget the brazen rape and kidnapping in the heart of downtown Jackson just a couple weeks back.

Anonymous said...

Sad sad people. Always blaming everything on the "white folks." Jealous because we live in Madison/Rankin? We work hard, pay taxes and do not take hand outs from the government...get over it.

Rebekah said...

People fear the police in the burbs. People are scared to death to even drive in Madison after 10:00 for the fear of being pulled over- which you will more than likely get pulled over. Now, of course things are always going to happen everywhere, but not as likely in the burbs than in the city. There have been burglaries, car thefts, and rapes in Madison...but it doesn't happen as frequently...Jackson is overpopulated and the crime is out of control. I live in NE jxn but drive to Madison Walmart and Madison Kroger because I want to live (and because I love my purse and would try to jackie chan someone who tried to steal it...now, I would sadly fall down and embarrass myself and my dignity, but I would fight hard...)
But I digress....
I hate these thugs. I hate the fact that I can't feel safe walking to my car from a store. or from a restaurant...but this is the way life is and we have to accept it. Watch out for your surroundings and be aware at all times.

Anonymous said...

Not to get into the Jax v. burbs conflict, but with all the sheriff's deputies at the I-55 krogers I've not seen a recent problem ... though someone ran into my car and dinged the bumper.

@3:51 I don't fear the police in the burbs. Why should I if I have done nothing giving them probable cause? However, if I'm driving around plastered, or selling dope, or looking for purses to snatch out the car window, then I might fear the police in the burbs. The reward isn't worth the risk. Right now in Jackson, for those that don't give two shits about anybody but themselves, the reward is worth the risk.

I wonder if this type of drive by purse snatching came about as a result of them being unable to run with a stolen purse AND hold their pants up at the same time?

Can't walk around with hands full cause dey pants may falls off. Guess that's the sacrifice you gots to make for keeping it real!

People who like the suburbs should stay there... more power to them. People who like the city (like me) should stay there. And for the record, I refuse to bash the suburbs just because I prefer to live in an urban environment. There's plenty to like about both. As for the crime, go after the criminals, and leave the rest of the accusations to the bigots and the limousine liberals. It's disgusting and tiresome either way.

I certainly applaud the efforts of all involved to keep the I55 Kroger safe. But the fact that it takes multiple armed HCSD deputies on guard 24/7/365 to make the place safe isn't a positive, it is a blaring negative.

I have to reiterate an earlier comment suburban police...Rankin sheriffs and Reservoir Police are some of the finest peace keepers I have ever had the privilege of meeting.

While crime certainly does occur, these professionals respond quick, with purpose and with an eye for safety of the community.

I figure the reason must be they are not overloaded with the crime calls that their colleagues downtown juggle every day.

Many years ago, my partner attended a wedding shower in Ridgeland. A couple of days after, she was robbed in the middle of the afternoon; she was in the shower when an intuder entered her home AND CAME INTO THE BATHROOM WHERE SHE WAS!

Let's not forget the incident of the female jogger who was robbed, in broad daylight, on the Trace (the Ridgeland side)

Crime can happen anywhere! You just hear about it more in Fondren b/c the press is aware that that is what people expect.

Crime can happen anywhere! You just hear about it more in Fondren b/c the press is aware that that is what people expect.

So you are claiming that the rate of crime is the same in Ridgeland as it is in Fondren?

Anonymous said...

There was a follow up email which described the suspects as 2 black males...for what that is worth. There was no tag number or real description of the car.

Fondren is changing. If anyone here is old enough to remember Westland Plaza, then you can see the future. Westland Plaza, once thriving, might as well be a morgue. The Imperial Apartments on Houston Avenue were some really nice apartments in mid 1970s....now it is where bodies get dumped.

Now look at Meadowbrook Plaza....go by the parking lot on the 1st of the month at around 10 PM...trash literally strewn across the parking lot...businesses shut down....check cashing places by the drove, bank branches shut down....soon to be Westland Plaza. Apartments near Meadowbrook Plaza are closed and currently housing crack heads and the like.

Are the people who fled to the suburbs to blame for this? Indirectly, yes. Had they stayed and fought for their property, perhaps this cancer would not have spread so much. Of course, I completely understand why people left Jackson....increasing taxes, terrible schools, higher crime, no justice, and no responsibility from elected officials who actually like it when people leave Jackson...cause its one less person to have to worry about voting against him/her.

And, let's see, how many years now has it been since I first heard of this type of purse snatching? Gosh, got to be a decade or more...

Those of you afraid to go to Jackson, be sure not to go to Atlanta ,Birmingham,Raleigh, New York, Chicago, Charleston ...well, ANY city in the world, really.

I know of several Mississippians robbed while in Europe so for God's sake, don't travel overseas.

Me, I'll enjoy the fine restaurants in Fondren and Madison and Rankin, and just put my debit card ,DL, lipstick and powder in a pocket. I'll even go to ...eeekk...FRANCE.

But, if you are scared,do stay home and try to forget that most injuries occur in the home.

By the way, why in the hell do any of you care whether someone chooses to live in Jackson or not? What business is it of yours where I decide to make my home and what trade offs I choose to make or risks I choose to accept?

You chose another county, fine with me. I like city life. You like a more rural existence. WHY is that the subject of debate????

Have any of you ever left the State? The belief that Jackson is dead and should be left to rot is moronic. Almost every other major city in the country has had periods of decline and then renaissance. Ever heard the term gentrification? Most of downtown Chicago was a godforsaken cesspool of crime and filth until people started taking a chance and building apartments and moving back in. Heck, Washington DC was the crack capitol of the world in the 80s.

So no, it is not mandated by some law nor is it your ethical duty to work and live in the city, but some people have a belief that by doing so they can improve the quality of life in downtown for everyone. You can call these people liberals or crazy, but at least they try to do something about it.

Homogenized architecture and iron gates aren't the problem, I agree those neighborhoods are nice. The problem is the people in them who have given up on their city and instead have made the personal choice that safety is the most important quality they seek in choosing where to live. This isn't the wrong choice, but it doesn't help anyone but themselves.

Yeah, I'm liberal, but I don't think it is a very liberal ideal to want to make this city a better place for everyone to live.

Oh, yes, God forbid someone makes a decision about safety that helps themselves.

Tell you what. Why don't you, right now, head over to one of Jackson's meaner streets and offer yourself up as a crime victim. Go on, get out there and make yourself a crime victim with the hope of sparing one of us from the same fate. Actions speak louder than words so show us what you've got.

Read your update. Too bad the apologists who live in denial about crime don't spend the same energy demanding solutions. Hiding crime, wherever it occurs, from the public is not a solution.

Check out this weeks Northside Sun, they have a write up regarding a woman had her purse stolen at Que Sera's parking lot. I do not know this is the same but if it is not then this should show there has been more that one incident and everyone needs to be real careful.

My husband and I moved to Belhaven a little over a year ago. I have lived in NE Jackson, Madison, Ridgeland and Rankin and I can say I have not loved a neighborhood more than I love Belhaven. My neighbors look out for each other and I look out for them. The downtown areas may have more crime than the burbs but we have more character and that is very important to me. I am not scared but I am aware of my surrounding just like I am everywhere that I go. Politics play no role in where I live, only how I vote. For those who say that Jackson is crumbling, I think you are wrong. It is my own opinion and I have a right to believe whether you like it or not. You can call me a whatever you want but I don't care. Bad things happen everywhere, no place is immune from evil.

As someone who grew up in Jackson, but has not lived there for many years, I can tell you that with each trip to Jackson, it is abundantly clearly to that Jackson is doing nothing but becoming a desolate slum... something reminiscent of Newark New Jersey.

I used to live in Belhaven and I can tell you that Belhaven today is NOT the Belhaven I knew and loved years ago.

For those touting Belhaven, please do be careful...your life or the life of someone you love could depend on it.

now anon65, I am not an idiot especially if I know what a Victoria is. Callous perhaps but It was just an attempt at comic relief in an otherwise potentially tragic outcome. Which it was thankfully not.

And You can't meet me, I live in a gated community so that all those jackson XXXXXXX can't come up here and whip my lily white XXX. Or, you too for that matter. So just relax and take some christmas pudding over to that poor girl. She will be fine. And we will all be on our guard in Fondren and Renaissance and Highland Village and the Corner of Lamar and Capital for that matter because the times "they are a changin"....and things are about to get alot worse. Count on it.

Now if you will excuse me I have to go take my place for the "night watch" on the ramparts of Whitey Acres.

And guys next time be sure and walk on the exposed side of your lady and when the perp drives up. Grab him and snap is neck between the rear view mirror and the windshield support. The only one left alive in the car will be the driver and he will be drivin away too fast to laugh.

URBAN SPRAWL. NO GROWTH BOUNDARIES. These are the metro-area's and Jackson's real problems. LACK OF GOOD PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION. EDUCATION CUTS. Those are some more real problems.

Why all this hate talk? Can't we get down to solving real problems?

Also, cut out the anonymous posting.

" Cut out the anonymous posting. "

So what you're saying is that " Red Hen Black Rabbit " is your real name ?

Just wondering, ...are you a Native American ?

Anonymous said...

That's funny!

You know what they say about rabbits.

I still think forced integration was the start of our urban centers down fall. It destroyed neighborhood cohesiveness. Do I support separate but equal. No! I support equal. But when little Tyrone was bused away from Home and mamma couldn't easily walk up to school and help teacher bust his ass and little Billy whitey!s ass for that matter and the radical "outcome based" left was able to infiltrate without involved parental input due to absurd distances, well here we are today. next was the aging housing stock in central south and yes silk "stocking" north Jackson. Jackson ran out or usable housing land a while back while Madison and rankin were wide open. Indeed I remember the first neighborhoods that started the draw. Castlewood moth as well have been on the dark side of the moon not to mention Audubon parkway up on the Rez. Then Madison started in on those areas around their side of the Rez. Old trace and roses bluff. Then north bay and then somerset. Then uber drive with dinsmoor. And there sat Jackson with old ranches and a lot of grandiosity that was fine but drafty. It was a receipe for decline. So here we are! What to do? There is a path and it is underway but it will take time. Atlanta did it and has been very successful.

Though the ever expanding residential updates have always been a part of urban decay and have been going on in Jackson since the turn of the last century with the demolition of north state and the building of belhaven and the aging of belhaven and the building of I55 leading to the first abandonment of bel and the rise of northeast Jackson and north and the agingof that and on and on. See where we are? I think we don't stop and look at process. It 's history and consequences. Ofmcoursenyounmust add into the processnthe upward mobility of the black mississippiian. He to wants better and as the city emptied out of 30,000 whites he left his aging domiciles and headed to nicer thane had which in thisncase was south and far north jackson (via hangingnmoss and Now briarwood and plantation).

For the life of me, I can't understand why those who have left Jackson feel compelled to bad mouth Jackson and in the process, make it more difficult for those of us trying to improve the quality of life here.
We aren't going to do it overnight. We may fail. But, downtown is looking damn good . People are residing downtown.
Don't come if you are afraid. But, don't assume we are stupid because we care enough about our hometown to stay and fight for it.

Anonymous said...

"People are residing downtown."

BFD. Is the Standard Life full yet? The spinners said it would be full on Day 1. It wasn't.

I would be interested in seeing a list of the 20 cities with the highest crime rates in the US, and then see how many of those cities are run by black Democrats. Detroit, anyone?

Jackson is starting to look a lot like it.

Is this politically incorrect, and will it chafe the kitties of the liberal bed-wetters on this forum? Yes.

Is it true? Again, yes.

White liberals living in Bellhaven & Fondren, a question for you: Do you send your kids to public schools?

If so, you deserve whatever you get.

Right, a glass can be half empty instead of half full. And, Rome was built in a day, too, right?

Have you been downtown lately? Have you seen the improvements on Lamar?
Did you know our Art Museum just won a national award?
Do you know there's a downtown grocery opening?
I guess all these investors are just stupid and inherited the money they're putting into downtown.
Or, it may be THEY'VE done a little research and figured out that what Jackson has been through with white flight happened in other places and in the end, they'll be laughing all the way to the bank.
Visitors from all over the world find our capital city beautiful.
But, why do you want efforts to fail? Why are you helping a car load of thugs destroy in five minutes all the positive publicity Jacksonians have worked hard to generate?
Do you think a failed capitol city will help Mississippi's economic future or national image?
You ought to be cheering for efforts to succeed .
If you don't have the guts to stay and fight the thugs , fine, but get the hell out of our way while we try to defeat them and save Jackson.
Our efforts may fail, but at least we're trying and you're just bitching and criticizing.

Anonymous said...

I think most people have plenty of courage to fight the thugs, as you say, but not many have faith in the city leadership. It reeks of incompetence and pettiness.
Thats the big problem.

Anonymous said...

Why are you helping a car load of thugs destroy in five minutes all the positive publicity Jacksonians have worked hard to generate?

A string of comments on a blog about a crime incident is destroying "all the positive publicity Jacksonians have worked hard to generate". That is simply and completely delusional.

Anonymous said...

3:38 I wasn't writing about a string of comments on a blog, but about the expressed attitude represented by the bloggers' negative comments and reaction to a single incidence.

If you don't think that expressed attitude influences others and makes it difficult to get Mississippi organizations to use downtown for events, you are the one who is delusional.

Funny but Channel 3 video seemed to coincide with this story.

Anonymous said...

No one doubted the story 9:31 and I think you meant " confirmed" except the email didn't give important details like the make or color of the car and slightly exaggerated minor details like how far the poor victim was dragged and omitted that the restaurant has security cameras that made a frightening event more frightening.
That is a common, understandable problem when well intentioned emails go out based on what the writer has been told.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
