Latest crime stats for Jackson

Crime Stats

Looks like crime dropped for downtown Jackson although Ridgewood Road picked up a bit.

Just for clarification, what distinguishes downtown?

Anonymous said...

Clear the roads out of Jackson. The rest of the good, tax paying citizens and businesses will be leaving shortly. Don't even go there saying it will get better either. It's not.

Kingfish said...

I consider Downtown the Interestate to Gallatin and High Street to that street behind the Post Office

Anonymous said...

The boundaries shift with the spin. Regardless downtown Jackson, Mississippi remains very dangerous.

Kingfish said...

Did I miss something? I consider North of High Street Belhaven Heights and where the P.O. is the Southern boundary.

Anonymous said...

Funny. Facts don't back up 8:21 so he just continues to shoot shit out of his ass.

Anonymous said...

@8:25 +1

Anonymous said...

I would agree that High Street is the north boundary, except there are a couple of government buildings on the north side of High St. The big PO is on South St, and it backs up to Silas Brown. Even though it's not as developed on the south side, I would consider Silas Brown the south border.

Anonymous said...

It's also amusing to see how much harder those like 8:21 are working to retain the flow out to the suburbs. They can sense the tide changing.

Kingfish said...

I've noticed all the for sale signs on Ridgewood.

Anonymous said...

Crap flowing out of the Pinnacle ... AGAIN.

Anonymous said...

The tide is changing? LMAO Too bad for you the population numbers say otherwise.

Oh, wait, now you're going to spew that bullshit that Mississippi lost a congressional seat in 2000 because we don't have a redeveloped downtown? Please, please say you are going to repeat that crock of manure.

Anonymous said...

You can shit on Jackson all you want- she's numb to it. But the fact still remains that Jackson has a strong university system, has a strong government jobs base, and is the core of the state. Nothing you say will change any of that.

Anonymous said...

@ 8:45

You left out the huge health/medical industry.

Anonymous said...

Oh he'll shoot more shit.

Anonymous said...

4 of the 6 incidents on Ridgewood happened at the same address.

Anonymous said...

A strong university system? Are you kidding me? That is the worst argument one could make for Jackson.

Millsaps is a good, private college - I'll give that to Jackson.

Belhaven is hurting so much that they are letting anyone with a pulse into their "ASPIRE" program. I say that as someone very close to that college.

Jackson State has been a joke for years. I'm surprised they haven't installed a drive thru to get degrees and possibly train their graduates for their next job. Their graduation rate is about to dip under 30 percent. There are some departments that are doing a good job, but the university as a whole is a joke.

Anonymous said...

What? You aren't impressed that our Jackson-based colleges and universities combined are the equivalent to Ohio State University? Don't you buy that?

One thing downtown has is soundbites up the wazoo. They don't have any tax receipts and the area is so dangerous that it needs special police protection but boy they are crap deep in soundbites.

Anonymous said...

5800 Ridgewood is that old apartment complex north of Adkins.

Anonymous said...

@ 9:00

You forgot about two big ones:
1. University of Mississippi Medical Center, which houses the UM School of Medicine, UM Medical Center School of Dentistry, Nursing, Health Related Professions, and Graduate Studies in the Health Sciences.
2. Mississippi College School of Law

Anonymous said...

Look more shit.

Anonymous said...

@ 9:18

Maybe downtown should be more like the Renaissance, and have police patrol on foot, police vehicle patrol, security on foot, security vehicle patrol, and security on 3 wheeled contraptions.

Kingfish said...

When created in 90's, wasn't DJP or its forerunner taking money from members to add another layer of security?

Anonymous said...

I'm not familiar with DJP's history. As far as security, I have seen their Dodge SUV's cruising around downtown for the past couple of years, and recently they added the cleaning crew/watchmen. I think presence/eyes on the street is more of the tactic rather than actual protection. Other than that, I don't know.

Anonymous said...

Well I know after my car is broken into that I'll feel a lot better about it if the chewing gum has been cleaned off the sidewalk.

Anonymous said...

Let me know when that happens ;)

Memphis police cut ties with TV's 'First 48'

Police director Larry Godwin decided not to renew the department's deal with the company that produces "The First 48" after several City Council members voiced concerns that the show made the Bluff City look like Murder Central.

"I heard out-of-town people say Memphis was out of control," said City Council member Wanda Halbert. "We were exposing the world to the worst aspects of our city."

QB said...

So wait, downtown Jackson is so dangerous because your car might get burglarized and there is chewing gum on the street? Steer clear of NYC, Washington, LA, Chicago, NOLA, Atlanta, Dallas, etc!

Downtown Jackson has probably zero murders for the past few years, and that murder would be one bum killing another. It is per capita probably the safest area of Jackson.

Anonymous said...

10:49

Agreed.

Family entertainment in downtown Jackson. What a joy that our tax dollars are being spent to welcome smut and a company that profits on degrading women into our city. Kudos to all for getting pornographers to make Jackson their destination city.

Anonymous said...

Tax dollars?

And what are you doing on the internet? Don't you know it's the devil! At least now you can go to Applebee's or Ruby Tuesday's and get a stiff drink to calm your nerves ;)

Jackson Convention and Visitor Bureau spokesperson, and Jackson Progressive Board Member, Gina Aswell likes the message that convicted underaged girl pornographer Joe Francis' Girls Gone Wild conveys about downtown Jackson. Said Aswell:

"We have to show them that once you're done with your meetings we have things to do here."

Do you think Gina can get Joe Francis to stop by the Jackson Progressive's next family day event at Smith Park? Maybe she can get him to park the GGW bus all day between the park and the Governor's mansion. What a wonderful way to show all of our families how our downtown is progressing!

@11:51 ... We need Girls Gone Wild @ Fondren After Five.

Kudos to Ben Allen, Wanda Collier-Wilson and the rest of our tireless downtown cheerleaders ... when they said we were going to get top flight entertainment in Jackson they weren't kidding.

stilettoGOP said...

And while I'm here.. 11:51, The girls gone wild thing? get over it. Its not like they took up residency here and we're now known as porn capitol of the world. Was one dang night. Chill.

Anonymous said...

Clarion-Ledger headline today....Jackson murder rate 4th in nation-according to an FBI report released this week.

Nice.....

Anonymous said...

Girls Gone Wild is successful because sex sells. Do you also protest against the erectile disfunction commercials that run every day on your tv at home where your children can watch them?

Anonymous said...

12:56

Are you surprised? Look who was running the show!

Anonymous said...

1:09pm. No I am not surprised. That is why I live in the suburbs. When I moved here 5 years ago I was told not to go shopping on County Line after dark.

And I don't.

stilettoGOP said...

1:08, good point but that person doesn't have children. Obviously celibate.

Heck yeah it sells. I'll admit, I've even bought a tape similar to GGW for my ex husband before he went on a guy's weekend thing. Thought they'd like it. So I guess I don't see the horror in a little smut every once in a while. Now excuse me while I go receive my coolest wife ever award.

Kingfish said...

Let me get this straight. You guys are coming to THIS website complaining about Girls Gone Wild?

You're kidding, right?

Anonymous said...

Afraid to shop on county line at night? Are you kidding???

Do you also sleep with a night light on? Better yet, do you still live with your parents?

Anonymous said...

My sentiments exactly KF!

PS: I need my "Girls of Wal-Mart" dvd back when you get a chance. Thanks!

** Park the Bus at Jubilee Jam ** said...

APRIL 4--The owner of the "Girls Gone Wild" video empire was arrested yesterday on racketeering charges after Florida cops learned that several underage girls were filmed topless and bathing together at a local motel. Investigators allege that Joseph Francis, 30, and his cohorts filmed the minors last week during spring break festivities in Panama City. According to cops, the "Girls Gone Wild" team brought two of the girls to a motel where they were each paid $100 for undressing, showering together, and masturbating as they sat on the side of the bathtub. Investigators also allege that Francis offered two of the girls $50 "to touch or play with his penis," and that he and the "Girls Gone Wild" photographer both knew that the girls were all underage. Along with arresting Francis and three of the multimillionaire's associates, cops executed search warrants on Francis's condominium and his corporate Lear jet. Those raids yielded a variety of electronic equipment, cocaine, and evidence of personal use of Ecstasy and pot. Most importantly, cops reported, they found explicit video of the underage girls who had told cops of their March 31 encounter with Francis & Co.

Who said what I gave was very young girls? I said "similar" to GGW. Could have been a mild Playboy vid. Damn the prude sensor here must be working overtime today.

1:46-No I don't sleep with the lights on-where I live I am SAFE. Nope...don't live with my folks and have not for over 20 years.

Last time I checked half of County Line Road was in Jackson and as we all know....Jackson is not exactly considered safe. So....in closing, I feel confident sticking with my statement that it isn't safe to shop on County Line Road after dark.

Slowhand said...

Ok, No one in this thread has cheered because the GGW bus was in town. You're right KF. Wtf is this 'debate' going on for in this thread. But since it seems to be more important that the subject of crime in our community, let me just say that it's presence in this town means nothing. It's presence in any community only means that they're free to because we live in America. And by the way, StilettoGOP is right. Nothing wrong with a little 'private' smut for the home or road. You should try it yourself 1:08.

QB said...

I will cheer that the bus was in town. Too bad the event itself was a waste of my time and money.

2:21 - Let me get this straight. Half of County Line Road is in Jackson; Jackson is not exactly considered safe; therefore, County Line Road is not safe. Very sound logic there.

Anonymous said...

Half of county line road is in Madison County... Madison County is considered safe, therefore I walk naked with taped $100 bills forming my leisure suit because I know nothing will happen to me because of an imaginary line

Slowhand said...

Countyline Road is merely an extension of Ridgewood Rd. Just as potentially dangerous, only time will tell. And careful KF. Sounds like StilettoGOP may be a catch, and may already be caught!

Anonymous said...

Half of County Line Rd. is in Jackson-Half is in Ridgeland. I do not shop on either side after dark if I can help it. I just love it when people start throwing daggers.

I am not hating on Jackson. I am into self-preservation so I do not hang out in what I believe is an unsafe place after dark. Period.

Anonymous said...

"I am into self-preservation so I do not hang out in what I believe is an unsafe place after dark. Period."

Moonbat.

Anonymous said...

Perception is reality. The perception is that Jackson is not safe.

Anonymous said...

Moonbat as in a LIBERAL? OR
Moonbat as in I am perpetuating some kind of hoax? PLEASE...fill us younger people in on this.

By the way......I am far, far, far away from being a liberal. And I am proud of that.

Times are good in Klukkville where the same white denizens who protest the misogyny of rap and hip hop now preach the economic virtues of a $explotative entrepreneur who makes a living plying primarily young white girls with free bar admission and free alcohol in exchange for their agreement that he film their nakedness.

There is no solving the crime problem first. You must have a tax base and economic development before you can implement measures to address the root of the problem (lack of education, teen parents, drugs).

David Sanders said...

Good column in the Northside Sun, Fish. I generally agree with your analysis, except for the criticism of Better Jackson PAC, of course. What we did was nothing BUT get-out-the-vote. In fact, we formed the PAC precisely because we thought the campaign was neglecting GOTV, particularly in areas -- Northeast Jackson, Belhaven, Fondren -- where the candidate was running strongest.

Direct mail and robo-calls ARE GOTV. And, yes, we talked about what is actually on voters' minds: crime and its deleterious effect on everything from property values to tax revenue. This, not some ethereal thing like Maple Syrup studies, gets people to the polls. The official campaign was spending almost all of its money on television. If you look at the results in the precincts we targeted, Crisler's share of the vote INCREASED from the first primary to the runoff. In other words, he picked up more of the "other candidates" votes (mostly Horhn) than Johnson did. He just got swamped in the black vote.

You are right that Crisler's white support became an albatross in a way that white support for Melton four years ago and Horhn this time did not. I think this campaign may cause white political donors to reassess their participation in city politics. For the white business establishment, it may have become a watch-but-don't touch game.

By the way I voted for Harvey Johnson in the runnoff. So did Wilson. In fact, the most recent expenditure by Better Jackson PAC was a contribution to the Harvey Johnson for Mayor campaign for the runoff. It's in our report, which is available at the city clerk's office. We wish Mr. Johnson and the City of Jackson the best. We all live here, so we have to try to make a go of it.

I didn't know Ben Allen was a cop. Who'd a thunk it?

Ben, get your arse out there and cowboy up!

Anonymous said...

Nobody gives a f&*k about your bullshit anybody-but-HJ campaign Sanders. You backed an empty suit and received your just rewards. Spare us the redemptive happiness about your PAC giving an apology contribution to Johnson's campaign.

When you assholes step up and condemn the absolute failures of McMillin during his time as JPD Chief then maybe someone will begin to listen. Otherwise shove your hypocritical spin.

David Sanders said...

As I said, there may be some reassessment.

Kingfish said...

You and I define get out the vote differently. Yours is more technology driven, mine is calling people several times on election day, having block captains, checking the polls every couple of hours for turnout and then making phone calls, getting minivans to get people who can't drive to the polls etc.

5:19, was that REALLY necessary?

Happy laughter said...

5:19 is the little angry white man, unemployed, and with an ugly wife. Forgive him, for he knows not what he does.

His diatribes are [predictable and] funny, aren't they BFpres [and several postings above].

Anonymous said...

5:19 fails to acknowledge another side of the coin. Yes, crime went up DURING THE FIRST YEAR THAT MAC WAS APPOINTED (technically appointed in November of 2007, but you get the point). Then, after having a reasonable time to have his policies and procedures followed (it takes at least one year to see if crime levels are lowered under one's leadership), well low and behold, this year they have been down. One could very well argue they are down because of Mac's policies' effectiveness.

Of course ElPresidentBF will discount this because he is irrational.

Anonymous said...

El Pres is a little angry white loser with an ugly wife. He has about 10 names he goes by. We know who he is.

Laugh at his LITTLE, small unemployed loser self. [and puleeze ask your wife to "clean up"]

Anonymous said...

I don't give a shit who the loser is. I just read his bull shit on various blogs, often posting to his own posts under various names like a complete loser as if to create the appearance other people think like the freak, for entertainment. Reading him is like visiting the freak show - he's just one of a kind.

Kingfish said...

and on that note, we'll be back with moooooore stuff.

can we get more GGW stuff please?

Lived in Madison for 7 years...had lawn equipment stolen and car broken into.Seemed like every time a new house was built, someone got robbed. Moved into Jackson as the commute to town took longer every year.Had stopped going to plays, concerts, events in town as once I drove home, didn't want to get back on the road. Been in Jackson 25 years now and no problem with crime. Love being able to run an errand in 20 minutes and be easily back home.Love the life style.
It is a perception problem. Worst problem in my area has been from spoiled teens acting up.
All the crime that happens in Jackson, happens across the county line as well.
Compare apples with apples...crime in upper middle class neighborhoods with crime in upper middle class neighborhoods vs crime in poor areas vs crime in poor areas...crime in commercial areas vs crime in commercial areas...throw Canton stats into the mix and figure a per capita. How does it look now?

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
